Set Into the Wind

Steps

1. 01Name the wind out loud before every rep: into you, behind you, or across.
2. 02Into the wind, set lower and further off the net, because the ball will hold and come back toward you.
3. 03With the wind behind, set lower and closer, because it will carry.
4. 04In a crosswind, set one body-width upwind of your hitter.
5. 05Take 10 in each condition you can find and score only whether the hitter could take a full swing without adjusting their approach.

Common mistakes

• Setting the same height in every wind and asking the hitter to fix it.
• Setting higher into a headwind, which gives the wind longer to work on the ball.
• Aiming at the hitter in a crosswind rather than upwind of them.
