Short-Deep Split

Steps

1. 01Have your partner receive from a normal depth.
2. 02Serve short, just over the net into the front third, and watch how far forward they have to come.
3. 03Serve the next ball deep to the same side, into the space they just vacated.
4. 04Run the pair ten times, and count only the pairs where both balls landed in their thirds.
5. 05Swap so you receive ten pairs yourself and feel the distance the pattern actually costs.

Common mistakes

• Changing your toss or approach between the short and deep ball, which gives the pattern away.
• Serving the short ball so short it goes into the net, which resets the receiver for free.
• Running the pattern so often it becomes the read.
