Read live float and topspin serves, move to the ball, and deliver a high, on-target pass to the setter.
20 minvolleyball, net
Steps
01Set up in your serve-receive zone with a staggered stance, arms loose and apart, eyes on the server's toss and arm swing.
02Read contact early: pick up the serve's line and depth off the server's hand, then release and move to get your midline behind the ball.
03Present a still, angled platform early and absorb a hard serve by giving slightly at contact, keeping the swing minimal.
04Deliver a high pass, peaking around 10-12 ft, to the right-front setter target so it drops two to three feet off the net, never tight to it.
05Take 20 live serves mixing float and topspin, calling the serve's depth and direction out loud (for example 'short cross' or 'deep line') before each contact to train the read.
Common mistakes
Reading late because the eyes drop to the ball instead of tracking the server's toss and arm.
Swinging at a hard serve instead of absorbing it with a quiet, angled platform.
Passing too tight over the net or too flat for the setter to handle.
