Shuffle between three cones and dig a partner's tosses without crossing your feet, staying stopped and square on every contact.
12 minvolleyball, cones
Steps
01Place three cones in a shallow triangle about three to four feet apart in the back row and start in a low ready stance at the center cone facing a partner tosser.
02On each toss, shuffle (never cross-step) to the cone nearest the ball and stop your feet completely before you contact.
03Set a flat platform angled back toward your partner and dig with a still upper body, moving your body behind the ball rather than reaching.
04After each dig, shuffle back to the center cone and re-load your stance.
05Have your partner mix left, right, and short tosses; complete 8-10 controlled digs to each direction.
Common mistakes
Cross-stepping instead of shuffling, which leaves you arriving off-balance and turned.
Contacting the ball while still drifting instead of stopping the feet first.
Swinging the platform to 'reach' a ball rather than getting the body behind it.
