Steps

1. 01Before each rep, signal behind your back which shot you are taking: line or angle.
2. 02Have your defender set up in the shot you are giving away.
3. 03Block the shot you called, whether or not the hitter takes it.
4. 04Run 15 reps and score only whether you blocked the shot you signalled, not whether you got a touch.
5. 05Then let the defender make the call instead, so the pair practises both directions of the conversation.

Common mistakes

• Changing the call mid-air when the hitter opens up, which leaves both shots open.
• Signalling so late the defender is still moving at contact.
• Reaching across to the shot you gave away, which opens the one you took.
