A controlled self-toss hitting drill that builds a clean high-elbow arm swing and full contact extension against a wall.
20 minvolleyball, wall
Steps
01Stand 8-10 feet from a wall with a ball in your non-hitting hand.
02Toss the ball 2-3 feet above and slightly in front of your hitting shoulder.
03Draw the hitting elbow high and back into a bow-and-arrow load while the non-hitting arm points up at the ball.
04Snap the swing with a high, straight-armed contact above and just in front of your hitting shoulder, wrapping the wrist over the top of the ball to drive topspin into the wall.
05Catch the rebound and repeat, keeping the contact point consistently above and in front of the hitting shoulder.
Common mistakes
Contacting the ball behind the head, which forces the ball up and long and removes any downward angle.
Leading with a low or 'chicken-wing' elbow instead of a high elbow load.
Pushing the ball with a stiff wrist instead of snapping over the top for topspin.
