Live High-Set Line & Cross Reps

Steps

1. 01Take a full approach on a live set to the outside (pin) from a setter running normal tempo.
2. 02Time the approach so you contact at maximum reach as the set drops into the antenna window.
3. 03On 'line' reps, keep the hitting shoulder square and contact slightly on the inside of the ball to drive it down the sideline.
4. 04On 'cross' reps, open the hips and hitting shoulder and pull across the outside of the ball to angle it sharply into the court.
5. 05Finish every swing with a full follow-through across the body and land balanced, then rotate out and repeat.
6. 06Alternate line and cross calls each rep so shot selection stays reactive.

Common mistakes

• Telegraphing the shot by changing approach angle instead of disguising it until contact.
• Decelerating the arm on cross-court to steer the ball rather than swinging full speed.
• Dropping the elbow on line shots and burying the ball into the net.
